Training Practice

We are pleased to announce that we have been approved as a GP training practice. We will therefore be welcoming GP Registrars into our Practice from the 3rd February 2016.

Dr Gillgrass and Dr Costen are the practice trainers.

GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors who are continuing their training in practice.

We will be welcoming GP Registrar Dr Corroon in August 2018.

Which service, when?

Inappropriate A+E attendances for problems that are neither emergencies nor related to acute injuries from accidents, cause delay in assessment for those who have genuine need. NHS Sheffield is keen to help you choose the right service for your needs at the time, i.e "the right place at the right time". That might be, self-care, pharmacist advice, walk-in-centre, GP (including urgent access as at Crystal Peaks MC),or out of hours GP service. In order to facilitate that, there is some guidance available in our further information list. Please help by accessing the right service at the right time. This is especially important in the winter months when the health service is under additional pressure.Thank you

HGV/PCV Medicals- £99!

We have reduced our price for Heavy Goods Vehicle and Passenger Carrying Vehicle examinations. We believe there are advantages to having your registered medical practice carrying out these medicals as we have full access to your medical record, if there are any queries and we can rapidly arrange any further tests that may become necessary. Please contact reception to arrange an appointment.

Extended practice boundary

We are currently working with the PCT to agree an extended practice boundary, such that those who are already registered with us, but moving slightly out of our area, may remain registered with us, as long as they fall within the extended zone. As per Government regulations, those already living in the extended zone but not currently registered won't be able to register with us. We will publish this once finalised.

Practice Closure

The practice will be closed in the afternoon on the following dates due to staff training, if you require a doctor in an emergency please call 111 or visit the Walk-in-Centre on Broad Lane:

Wednesday 6th February 2018

Patient Participation Group

Our Patient Participation Group, Crystal Peaks PPG, is encouraging patients to give their views about how the practice is doing. We hold ad-hoc face-to-face meetings with patients about changes to the practice and any items the patients feel they would like to discuss.

Are you interested in leaving your email contact details? If so, please fill in the form attached and drop off at reception. Your email will be used to invite you to come in to any upcoming meeting. These meetings are held on alternate afternoon and evenings to accommodate all of our patients. Alternatively you can collect a form from reception.

If you do not have access to email, please contact reception who will add your name to our PPG list and we will contact via telephone.

Your contact details will only be used for this purpose and will be kept safely.

Feedback so Far

Following a patient survey carried out on access in April 2016, there were several comments that were highlighted:

  1. 'Telephone lined congested, cannot get through'
  2. 'Waiting times to see GP too long (approx. 4-5 week depending on GP requesting to see)'
  3. 'Appointment system'

We have taken the feedback from our patients on board and have implemented changes that should help solve or improve these problems including a new telephone line system that allows patients to select the appropriate service they require for example appointment booking, prescription query line, blood results and insurance reports. This enables patients to have direct access to the individual they require.

Waiting times to see a GP tends to be a national problem across the county. As of February 2016 we became a training practice which in turn offers additional doctor appointments together with employing a salaried GP in January 2017. We have more recently gone live with Care Navigation.

Care Navigation allows trained receptionists to signpost patients to the most appropriate service as in some cases seeing a GP isn't always the best point of call. Services include community support workers, PEARS, physiotherapists, pharmacists etc.

The practice currently offers both book on the day and pre-bookable appointments and feel that due to different patient's demands/needs our appointment system is helping aid both types of appointments and this throughout all audits this has been a recurring trend.

We will be carrying out a further in-house Patient Survey on access following the GP Patient Survey response to capture a true reflection on our patients views. This will be carried out in May 2018.
