Appointments

Who do I see?

Routine appointments

All of the healthcare professionals within practice work to appointments. You can book routine appointments in advance via telephoning reception, completing an online Accurx request detailing what sort of appointment you need and specify ideal times/ dates whereby a receptionist will respond to your request, by visiting the reception desk or by logging into your SystmOne Online account where you can access pre-bookable online appointments.

We have different GP routine appointments available throughout the day, mainly from 8.30am – 9am in a morning prior to Urgent Access and a variety of pre-bookable slots available in an afternoon.

If you have multiple problems, you may need to request a double appointment.

Urgent Appointments

We run Urgent Access every morning from 9.20am onwards. You need to ring the surgery at 8am to book these on the dayThis type of consultation is to deal with recent-onset problems, that are concerning or worrying you, which cannot wait for a routine Book in Advance Appointment. Due to the nature of the clinic, you cannot choose which Dr you see (exceptions may be made for certain female/male preferences where there is an alternative Dr available that day). They are not for chronic (i.e. longstanding) problems, nor for “lists” of problems as it is unfair to keep the other patients waiting.

We also offer on the day afternoon appointments. You may also be offered an appointment at our hub that runs at the surgery on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 6.30pm – 9.30pm and Saturday from 9.00am – 12noon.  You may also be offered an alternate appointment at a different hub site if appointments are available.

In other cases the receptionist will need to discuss with the Dr-on-call whether or not the problem justifies an emergency slot. Patients attending as ‘extras’ will usually be seen in order of arrival unless there are special circumstances. Please be patient, as clinics often over-run.

Cancelling your appointment

New Appointment Access Option – Starting 1st September 2025

From 1st September 2025, patients will have an additional way to request non-urgent appointments. You can now complete an online Accurx form, which will be triaged by the on-call GP to arrange the most appropriate care.

The online form will be available daily from 8:00 AM to 6.30PM Monday – Friday.

Please note:
You can still telephone the surgery or walk in to book an appointment as usual. This new option is simply an added convenience for those who prefer online access.

If you require an urgent clinical appointment or review, please contact the practice either by attending in person or by telephone. Requests for urgent matters cannot be accepted via email or online forms to ensure they are dealt with promptly and appropriately.

We hope this helps improve flexibility and access for all our patients.

Home Visits

Requests for home visits may be made by calling the surgery reception on 0114 2510040, preferably before 11am.

In general, we ask that patients only request a home visit if they are genuinely housebound and too unwell to come to the surgery.

The computerised records and some pieces of medical equipment which are so helpful in modern general practice are only available at the surgery. In addition, your doctor can usually see several patients at the surgery in the time that it takes to make a single housecall.

If you need a visit, you will usually be visited by your doctor between 11:45 and 15:00. Please note that it isn’t always possible for you to be seen by the Dr of your choice, but we will accommodate this whenever possible.
